Out of State Practitioners.
Under Rules Regulating The Florida Bar, Chapter 13, an attorney who is a member in good standing of another state bar can practice at a legal aid program under the supervision of a staff attorney while waiting to take the next bar exam. This rule enables attorneys in the public interest field to relocate to a Florida public interest employer and continue to practice while seeking Florida Bar admission. This has a limited application to out of state practitioners but is helpful for someone moving to Florida to work with a legal aid program. See www.flabar.org.

Emeritus Attorney.
Under Rules Regulating The Florida Bar, Chapter 12, an attorney who has retired from practice in Florida or another state can volunteer with an approved legal aid program and practice under the supervision of a staff attorney at that program. Legal Aid has benefited from the services of ‘Emeritus’ or retired attorneys. Emeritus attorneys have assisted with intake, with preparation of pleadings and other legal documents, and with trainings. See www.flabar.org.

Retired Attorneys.
Retired members of The Florida Bar can continue to accept individual cases and participate in projects if they retain their bar license. Many retired attorneys have volunteered at Legal Aid in our intake department assisting with interviewing and screening clients at our offices during daily morning intake.
